These shoe trees are a great example of an invention that never needed improvement. The shoe tree was invented to keep your leather quality shoe in shape and dry well in between wearing them. It can be set to exactly the right size so it would not over stretch but be just right. The setting on these Manfield’s Compax shoe trees as shown in the picture (3 small holes open on front) is about size 7 1/2 so will fit a small up to very large size male shoe. The early models were made with aluminum fronts (toes) where this black version seems to be a little later and is made of strong wood-glue made form a predecessor to plastic.
