Description

Bézard compass model 2 made in Germany by Gotthilf Lufft and so marked on the aluminum bottom (missing most of the black finish). Top is nickel plated worn down to the brass. Top is also marked ZL nr. 62 which may point towards the dividing of the fase in 62 units. The nr. is Dutch and also the rare text on the dial reads ” Origineel Bézard”. The compass rose is in Dutch as well with “Z” for South (Dutch is Zuid). Strangly the top (with the early oval ring) reads “Direction”. This model is probably from just before/during or just after WW2 when German product were not very popular so this was hidden as best as the manufacturer possibly could. The needle moves, the dial can be turned but I am not sure the lower dial with luminescent marks turns (hold by 3 screws and still in original position). This quality product with history measures ca. 6,5 cm or 2 1/2 inches in width. See attached a short YouTube video on how to works a vintage (wrist) compass.
