The early quality lantern is of a trusted design, found in Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands by various makers. Often used for mining and signaling on train stations. This one is all original and marked on both side doors with “Gebr.(brothers) Â Smink Amersfoort (city in Holland). Carbide was commonly used in the 1920’s-1940′ but this one is from a period between 2 world wars where German items were not all the welcome in The Netherlands. It has clear glass on the front and blue and red on the sides. The doors work properly with springs still functioning. The burner is complete with mirror, it can be turned on and off (some solder to the base) and the water lid opens. There is still some carbide in the lamp but I could not openen it, not tested. It measures about 20 cm or 8 inches high from bottom to top of lantern (excluding the handle). There are clear signs of use, some dents on the inside burner and tank, outside is straight and dent free, it has been thoroughly polished the past 60 years or so with white residu to proof it. I like the current patina. Check the video to see some in-depth information on the vintage Coleman lanterns.
