Antique HAG Chess clock for VAS from Amsterdam, Holland made ca. 1930 in Germany
Out of stock
Highest quality vintage wooden chess clock, made by the Hamburg America Company (HAC) aka the HAU Hamburg Amerika Uhrenfabrik. This is indicated by the Crossed Arrows logo on the dials. Various companies also re-branded the HAU chess clocks (including) Jaques in England, or used the inner clock works in their own construction out case. This particular one was sold in Holland and specially commissioned for the VAS (red logo on the front in the middle). VAS is a Dutch chess club, based in Amsterdam since 1882, still going strong and is called the Vereenigd Amsterdamsch Schaakgenootschap. This clock has seen many, many games in it’s life and has been kept in working condition by the club (one wind up key on the back is replaced and the buttons on top are different). There is still a white decal on it from it’s last tournament performance. Now even though it still works it has some quirks from old age and use, so selling it as the iconic piece of chess memorabilia…as a display item. It measures ca 22,5 cm or 9 inches wide. I am guesstimating this piece form being around 1930. Check out the YouTube video below on some vintage chess!
